Management Ebooks: "Managing for Results"

The effective business, Peter Drucker observes, focuses on opportunities rather than problems. How this focus is achieved in order to make the organization prosper and grow is the subject of this companion to his classic, The Practice of Management. The earlier book was chiefly concerned with how management functions; this volume shows what the executive decision-maker must do to move his enterprise forward.

One of the notable accomplishments of this book is its combining specific economic analysis with a grasp of the entrepreneurial force in business prosperity. For though it discusses "what to do" more than Drucker's previous works, the book stresses the qualitative aspect of enterprise: every successful business requires a goal and spirit all its own. Peter Drucker again employs his particular genius for breaking through conventional outlooks and opening up new perspectives--for profits and growth.

Management Ebooks: "The Drucker Difference"

Peter F. Drucker was one of the most influential business thinkers in history. Considered the father of modern management, he was concerned not only with the human side of management, but also with the larger societal roles played by both companies and the individuals within them.

If there has ever been a time when such thinkers are relevant, it is now.

The Drucker Difference casts new light on Drucker’s business philosophy, analyzing his most important ideas in the context of today’s business world. Through individual contributions by professors from The Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management, it combines expert insight and current scholarship to reveal how organizations and executives can interpret and apply Drucker’s timeless ideas.

Today’s top business thinkers provide sixteen chapters analyzing Drucker’s views on the most critical issues of our time, including:

  • Government, business, and civil society (Ira Jackson)
  • The interplay of values and power within companies (Karen E. Linkletter and Joseph A. Maciariello)
  • Applying collaboration to “knowledge work” (Craig L. Pearce)
  • Drucker’s management vision (Richard Smith)
  • Economic environment, innovation, and industry dynamics (Hideki Yamawaki)

Each contributor explains a single, classic aspect of Drucker’s work, examines its implications in today’s business environment, and applies an up-to-date and contemporary interpretation of Drucker’s wisdom.

Covering everything from marketing and leadership to strategy and governance, The Drucker Difference is both a timely new assessment and a valuable addition to the canon of Drucker literature.

Management Ebooks: Peter F. Drucker "Management"

The essential book on management from the man who invented the discipline. Now completely revised and updated for the first time.

There are very few writers of whom one can say they invented an entire field of study: Peter F. Drucker is one. “Management” as a concept literally did not exist until Drucker’s groundbreaking work. From Jim Collins to Jack Welch, every great theorist and practitioner of management has walked in Drucker’s footsteps. And in 1974, with MANAGEMENT, he published the book that would come to define the field. In this seminal work, Drucker explored how managers--in the for-profit and public service sectors alike--can perform effectively. Examining management cases with a global eye, Drucker laid out the essentials of performance, and of how a manager interacts with their organization and the social and cultural environment in which they operate. For three decades, managers and students of business worldwide have relied on Peter Drucker to prepare themselves to meet the challenges of an ever-changing business environment.

The result is a book that--while still a fundamental work--has also slipped substantially behind the current business climate.
Now Joseph Maciariello, Professor of Management at Claremont University’s Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management and one of Drucker’s foremost students and protégés, has exhaustively revised and updated this book to meet the needs of the modern-day manager. Almost every page contains new and reworked material that reflects the thirty years of Drucker’s thinking and writing that postdated the original edition. Business examples that have now gone out of date have been reworked; commentary to explore and explain Drucker’s thinking and its applications has been added throughout. MANAGEMENT is ready at last to enter the twenty-first century and continue its reign as the must-read text for every serious student of the field.

Management Ebooks: "A Class with Drucker"

Hailed as 'a warm and useful read', "A Class with Drucker" brings to life invaluable advice from the world's greatest thinker and writer on management. From 1975 to 1979, author William Cohen studied under the great Peter Drucker and became the first graduate of his doctoral program. What Drucker taught him literally changed his life. In a matter of a few years, he was recommissioned in the Air Force and rose to the rank of major general. Eventually, he became a full professor, management consultant, multibook author, and university president all the while maintaining a nearly lifelong friendship with the master.

In "A Class with Drucker", Cohen shares many of Drucker's teachings that never made it into his countless books and articles, ideas that were offered to his students in classroom or informal settings. Cohen expands on Drucker's lessons with personal anecdotes about his teacher's personality, lack of pretension, and interactions with students and others. He also shows how Drucker's ideas can be applied to the real-world challenges managers face today. Enlightening and intriguing, this book will enable anyone to gain from the timeless wisdom of the inspiring man himself.

Management Ebooks: Peter F. Drucker "The Essential Drucker"

Management Ebooks: Peter F. Drucker "The Effective Executive"

What makes an effective executive?

The measure of the executive, Peter F. Drucker reminds us, is the ability to "get the right things done." This usually involves doing what other people have overlooked as well as avoiding what is unproductive. Intelligence, imagination, and knowledge may all be wasted in an executive job without the acquired habits of mind that mold them into results.
Drucker identifies five practices essential to business effectiveness that can, and must, be learned:

* Managing time
* Choosing what to contribute to the organization
* Knowing where and how to mobilize strength for best effect
* Setting the right priorities
* Knitting all of them together with effective decision-making

Ranging widely through the annals of business and government, Peter F. Drucker demonstrates the distinctive skill of the executive and offers fresh insights into old and seemingly obvious business situations.

Management Ebooks: Peter F. Drucker "The Concept of the Corporation"

The book studies and analyses General Motors as a large social institution involved in business activities. It describes what management is, how managers are selected, how they act, and how a corporation is organized into management units at different scales (e.g. divisions, sections, etc.). It also seeks to explain the role and position of large corporations in modern society.

In writing and researching the book, Drucker was given unprecedented access to General Motors resources. He was paid a full salary, he accompanied CEO Alfred Sloan to meetings, and he was given free run of the company.

Druckers' focus wasn't the "outside" of a company, but rather the inside: He focused, in contrast to his contemporaries, on what happened inside a company and how this related to the company's success or failure. Fascinated by this question, he studied management to find out what really made a business tick.

Until then, management was seen as a no-brainer: the CEO would simply give the orders and the others would follow. But Drucker was interested in the human interactions within a company, and more specifically on how power structures, political environments, information flows, decision making and managerial autonomy contributed to success. By shifting his focus, he was able to explain why General Motors was such a success.

GM was very pleased with Druckers' work, until Drucker published his book, "Concept of the Corporation." The book strongly praises General Motors for its vision in developing management techniques, programs, and infrastructure. But GM interpreted the suggestions that Drucker made - to decentralise the company in order to even become more successful - as betrayal. Their reaction was so strong against his view of the work, that it would lead to Alfred Sloan later penning "My Years at General Motors" as the organization's informal rewrite of Drucker's criticisms.

For Drucker this was completely unexpected: He found GM a great company, which he had even compared with the U.S. government. Drucker used the term "federal decentralization" to describe it, as he felt that a company should be organized in a number of autonomous businesses. Much like the way the U.S Government gave power to the states, GM should give its divisions more autonomy.

It would take GM several decades to listen. By then, Drucker had helped the Japanese, who embraced his intentions and the hybrid organization form, leap in front of many American companies.

Sus primeras publicaciones americanas (The End of Economic Man y The Future of Industrial Man) son brillantes análisis sociales y políticos.
